KHARTOUM (Commodity Online) : Poverty-stricken and about to be divided Sudan said scientific studies proved the existence of huge quantities of gold in its Hamashkoreeb region in Kassala State.
According to country’s Minerals minister Dr. Abdul Bagi Al-Jaillani several companies have expressed intention to work in the mining field in the area expecting more mining activities from the citizens of the area.
He said the investing in mining represents a new stage and support to the area and its people.
The minister visited number of mining sites in Kassala and pointed out that the region is rich in metals including gold and other precious metals, affirming intention of his ministry to mapping areas rich in metals, indicating that investing companies will launch mining process in the area soon.
He stressed their keenness in activating informal mining avoiding use of mercury to preserve environmental health.
Deputy Wali of Kassala state expressed his hope that, the visit of the minister will contribute to reduce sufferings of the people of the area, pointing out that survey of mining areas and technical process have already been inaugurated by state government in cooperation Geological Office in Kassala.
Head of Hamashkoreeb Locality said that there is great amount of gold in the area, adding that mining will contribute to resolve problems of the locality.
